About me...

My desire to find out about the workings of the human mind began in my teenage years, following a difficult and traumatic history. It was only when a college tutor believed in me and encouraged me to apply, that I felt able to apply for my psychology undergraduate degree. Very soon after, I completed my counselling dipoma and an MSc in Counselling Psychology.

Like many therapists starting out, I had to undertake many voluntary roles, primarily within G.P practices, before the days of IAPT services. Within 5 years I gained employment within the NHS. Since that time I have worked with individuals couples and groups, with people from diverse backgrounds and with a range of issues. My training has encompassed, person-centred theory, psychodynamic theory, and cognitive behavioural theory to name but a few. I am a trained CBT therapist with a post-graduate certificate in CBT and also have level 4 EMDR, which means that I am a qualified EMDR therapist.

One of my special interests is the use and abuse of power in therapy and one of my greatest bug-bears is the misuse and weaponisation of many psychological concepts, especially the label 'narcissist,' which gets thrown around a lot on social media these days. I have come across some psychodynamic therapists who also impose completely innaccurate interpretations of a client's behaviour on the patient with damaging effects. My career to date now spans over 20 years.

I have recently published my first self-help book entitled, 'Stop eating Shit Sandwiches and other Tips for Happiness,' which is available on Amazon. By combining my own personal experience and the things that helped me to heal, along with psychological theory and client observations, I have developped a book that I feel offers a great deal of information to those who maybe can't afford therapy. My second book is currently underway and I am also writing my application for my PhD. I am an accredited member of the BACP and BABCP.

Outside of my work, my family consists of my partner and my cat and in my spare time I run, read non-fiction, listen and dance to reggaeton music and watch a lot of reality TV (please don't hold that against me! Maybe it's for research purposes, LOL). I also love Chinese and Thai food.
